Event Program Overview
Buffs Hike:
Buffs Hike is a space for CU students to meet other students interested in outdoor activities while hiking trails around Boulder. The goal of this program is for students to find peers to do activities with this, eventually turning into a mentoring program.
Coffee Hour:
A series of programming to highlight people’s voices in outdoor spaces. Each Coffee Hour will facilitate conversation and allow people to share their personal experiences around a subject. Also, an opportunity to find common ground around a subject.
Partnerships Programs:
Collaboration with different organizations and agencies is essential for creating equitable access to outdoor spaces. In order to make outdoor recreation experiences safe for communities of color and other marginalized communities, we will partner with organizations that are committed and already doing the work to make these spaces accessible for community members.
Potential partnership opportunities with different organizations:
-
Bilingual Birding Experience with Open Space and Mountain Parks
-
Create more language access
-
-
Climbing Experience with Latino Outdoors
-
Cultural background, Led by BIPOC instructors for the BIPOC community
-
-
Ski Expedition with CU Recreations
-
Targeted for First Time Skiers and opportunity for mentorship program*
-
-
Student-led experiences with Student Academic Success Center (SASC)
-
Work with SASC Students to have community-informed programming
-
Workshop Clinics:
In order to break down barriers of entry, whether financial or knowledge-based, these workshops will break down activities by providing resources. An introduction workshop will target an overview of a subject, including locations, gear, and depending on the activity, a “how to” in action.
Sample workshop clinics:
-
Intro to Climbing
-
Fishing Clinic
-
Intro to Camping
Gear Exchange:
Gear. This is the number one burden/barrier to accessing the outdoors and entering outdoor recreation activities. In order to help relieve the financial costs and take advantage of reusing gear, a monthly/quarterly gear exchange in which students bring gear they have and exchange it for other gear. Additionally, students can apply for gear tickets if they have no gear to exchange but would like to participate in the gear exchange.
Samples:
-
Spring Gear Exchange - Clothing, small items
-
Summer Camp Gear Exchange - Clothing, backpacking & camping tools
-
Recreational Gear Exchange - Fishing, Climbing, Technical gear
This gear exchange has a lot of opportunities for collaboration and opportunities for those who want to support by donating gear to those who cannot afford market items.
To build a sense of community and find people in common, we have created the following program to allow our audience to meet new people, invite newcomers and make a collaborative space.
